Compania Espanola de Petroleos, S.A. (CEPSA) operates in the oil and gas industry in Spain and internationally.
It engages in the exploration and extraction of crude oil; the production, refining, distribution, and marketing of petrochemical and energy products, asphalt, lubricants, and polymers; and the distribution of gas and generation of electricity.
The company offers various petrochemical products, including motor fuels, asphalt, lubricants, bunker fuel, propane, and marine and aviation fuels.
It produces and sells linear paraffin and linear alkylbenzene, a compound used in the manufacture of biodegradable detergents and various commercial and industrial secondary products; and purified terephthalic acid, dimethyl terephthalate, and purified isophthalic acid that are used in the production of various polyester for textile fibers and polyethylene terephthalate bottles and containers.
CEPSA offers various chemical intermediates, such as cumene, phenol, and acetone, as well as methylamines, alpha methyl styrene, and other derivatives that are used in making plastics.
It produces basic chemical components, such as propylene, cyclohexane, solvents, benzene, toluene, and xylene.
The company also supplies gasoline, diesel fuels, kerosene, and liquefied petroleum gases.
As of December 31, 2005, it had 1,726 retail sites in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
In addition, CEPSA conducts exploration activities in Timimoun and bechar blocks located in southwestern and central-western regions of Algeria; on the Upper Magdalena River Valley, including the Espinal, San Jacinto, Rio Paez, and Achira blocks in Colombia; and in Egypt.
It also operates in the RKF and OURHOUD fields located in Berkine Basin, Algeria; and on the offshore Mediterranean Casablanca field, located near the coast of Tarragona, Spain.
The company was founded in 1929 and is headquartered in Madrid, Spain.
